Yara and Taliesin collaborative storytelling

Shapeshifters will be an audiovisual experience and cultural exchange inspired by Venezuelan and Welsh mythology, featuring animated loops with realtime participatory components that engage the audience. The story will follow the figures of Yara/Maria Lionza from Venezuela and Gwion/Taliesin from Wales as each transforms to escape their pursuers until they become one with the cosmos.
Our StoryVenezuelan American interdisciplinary artist Alejandra Abad and Welsh American musician and Fulbright scholar Steve Jones of Black Moon Howl are academics and educators collaborating on experimental storytelling through audiovisual experiences, films, art, music, performances, and academic papers and conferences.
Alejandra frequently works with Steve to develop a sonic landscape for her films, utilizing music and sound design to augment the visual power of the world of “I not I.” They also perform live as Casa De Houses.
